Things to know...

  • When you own a car, there’s no way to legally register it and drive it without buying car insurance
  • If you drive without any insurance, you could be pulled over for having no insurance and cited
  • Some states require law enforcement to physically tow an uninsured car and then impound it when it’s driven
  • If you’re cited for no insurance, you must appear in court and show evidence of insurance to have the fine waived
  • If you present fake proof of insurance and coverage can be verified electronically, you could be arrested

If you’re pulled over without insurance, you might be tempted to find out how to get fake car insurance and create a fake document.

If you succeed in making a fake insurance card that says that you have insurance for the next 6-12 months, it will only make the situation worse. Not just because you wouldn’t actually have protection, but also because having fake proof of insurance in court is a serious offense.

You should know that there are plenty of reputable car insurance companies that offer a wide range of policies. There’s no doubt you can find a policy that meets your needs so you can avoid the need to research how to make a fake car insurance card.

Fake car insurance calls for duplicity and getting around the law. There’s no need to fake car insurance quotes when you can use our free comparison tool above to find a low rate that works for you.

Why do you have to prove you have insurance?

If you are paying for your car and you’re paying for your annual registration dues, you might wonder why law enforcement officers are even asking you about insurance.

The reason that proof of insurance is one of the first things that a law enforcement will ask you for at a traffic stop is that there are minimum car insurance requirements that are set by the state. These mandatory requirements are written under state legislation.

This video from Texas shows what can happen if you are pulled over and don’t have insurance.

Auto insurance is generally a state requirement. In all but two states, you must have third-party liability insurance and/or personal injury protection to register your car and keep it registered.

Since you have to have a registration to drive your car or even park it, you’ll have to have insurance at all times.

Having an officer ask for proof of insurance is kind of like quality control. By asking drivers for evidence when they are already in contact with an officer, the state can assess fines to people in real-time when they don’t have insurance coverage in their car.

State officials can’t follow you around and ask you about your coverage on a daily basis, but sometimes asking for the ID card randomly is the best way to catch an offender when they least expect it.

How do you provide evidence that you have insurance?

If you’re at a traffic stop or the scene of an accident, you’ll need to provide the officer on the scene or the other driver with evidence that you’re covered.

You might think the evidence would be a huge document detailing all of your coverage, but it’s not. The only thing that you need to show that you have complied with the laws in your state is an insurer-issued auto insurance ID card.

How do you get an auto ID card?

If you don’t currently have an ID card, you might be wondering how you can get one. For starters, you need to have insurance through a respected auto insurance carrier that is licensed to do business in your state.

As long as the company is licensed to sell personal auto policies in the same state where the car is titled and registered, you shouldn’t have any problems getting an official document like an auto ID card.

When you sign up for insurance, you are given a temporary auto ID card, as described by the California Department of Insurance, that’s only good for around 30 to 60 days. After the information is verified and your payment clears, you’ll receive more than just the temporary paper ID card.

The official card will be on a laminated piece of paper and it will show the full term and not just the first month of it.

What can you do if you misplace your ID card?

In some states, ID cards have to be printed on a card as small as 3×4 inches. It’s easy to lose a card that’s small if it’s in your wallet or your glove box. If you lose your auto ID card, you don’t have to wait until your next renewal to ask for a new card., as described by the Missouri Department of Revenue.

If you need a new car insurance card, here are some way to get one:

  • You can call for a replacement
  • You can log in online and print a new copy from your home printer
  • If your company has a local office, you can even stop by and have them print the card for you

Your policy must be active before you can request an ID card to be printed. If there’s a lapse, the card will only be printed as of the day the policy was reinstated.

What happens if you have fake auto ID cards?

If you look up copies of auto insurance ID cards and you decide that you’re going to try and doctor a document on the computer, think again. It might be easy to use a PhotoShop tool to create your own ID card complete with the company logo, but simply having a document doesn’t mean that the company will go by strictly what the card says.

Furthermore, there are fake auto insurance companies out there that might seem legitimate. But these are typically websites that claim to make fake car insurance cards online for free. If you get caught and it comes boils down to presenting a judge with a fake insurance card for court, you’ll find yourself in a world of trouble.

Giving Law Enforcement a Fake ID Card

If you’re stopped and you are asked for your registration and your proof of insurance, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the officer doesn’t know you don’t have insurance.

It could be a trap to see if you’re going to falsify evidence.

In many states, officers with access to onboard computers in their squad cars can already see your license plates and insurance status in real time.

If you do happen to hand over a doctored or invalid auto insurance card to the officer requesting evidence, the hot water you’re already in could get much deeper and hotter. That’s because handing over a fake ID card is a crime.

If it’s confirmed that you doctored the card intentionally, you could be given another citation or hauled off to jail for fraud.

Carrying Fake Proof of Insurance

The DMV uses computer systems to see if drivers have insurance. The insurance verification is done electronically by VIN. If you have fake proof of insurance, it doesn’t change what the database says.

The DMV will still know you’re not insured and you’ll still be assessed a fine. You could even have your license plates suspended.
